I’d lose so badly
Yet we’d both win
Laughing, tumbling
From dance mat to floor
Forgetting the score
Always wanting more

We’d chase around madly
Through smoke machine din
Hungry, devouring
From stage pole to bar
Back of the car
The future so far…

But we didn’t know. But we didn’t see.
We had no idea that the Fates held scissors eagerly
To every strand an end, to every dawn a dusk
And with a breath you flew away on wings of dust to dust

Fly on, be free
Don’t wait for me
I may be a while…
Take wing and sing
Don’t look back
Don’t see my fading smile

We’d waste away the day
Yet savor every minute
Having, holding
Smiles in sun
In daisies we’d run
Lost in our fun

We’d lose ourselves in night
Our two becoming one
Loving, wanting
To find what we seek
Collapse cheek to cheek
With kisses to speak

But we didn’t know. But we didn’t see.
We had no idea that the Fates held scissors eagerly
To every strand an end, to every dawn a dusk
And with a breath you flew away on wings of dust to dust

Fly on, be free
Don’t wait for me
I may be a while…
Take wing and sing
Don’t look back
Don’t see my fading smile
Through moon and stars
Wherever you are
Remember how we’d laugh
Don’t turn back
To see me sing
Your tearful epitaph.

Don’t Speak

There was a day
And so many nights
When laughter and light
Kept us talking well into dawn

The smiles all ran out
And we awkwardly found ourselves
Avoiding our eyes
With comfortable lies
Until avoiding is all we could do.

Don’t give the words flesh
I don’t need to know
Need to hear
Need it clear
I would have been fine
Had we simply kept drifting off into shadows.

I knew…

Let the yawning chasm between us
Speak volumes by its silence
And let us part as faded memories.
It needs no epitaph.

I didn’t want to know his name
Nor how we compare
Unless cruelty is your design…
The reasons only hurt.

Time would have washed away
Our eroding connection
There was no need
To burn it with acid words
And salt the earth behind you.

There was no need
To turn estranged friendship
Into bitter lamentation.

There was no need to bring the storm
Instead of letting the words trail off into the wind
Lost among the rustle of falling leaves
And the cycle of death and rebirth.

There was no need
To punctuate the end with a scar.

This simply was no need.

Icarus Heart

Staring down the barrel
Who will flinch?
I’m on a collision course with oblivion
Playing chicken one night at a time.
The nameless hunger compels me
To do or dare
To take the air
To fall… where…
The heart cannot soar so high
On wings of wax
And self-deception
But here I lay
Broken on the rocks
Of enlightenment and despair
Of ugly truth laid bare
The falsehoods made aware
I dream of her touch
Like sunlight
And hope
And tomorrow’s kiss
Waking to the quaking sobs of faking the love-making
The hand taking
The soul shaking…
This undertaking took with hook and snare
Everything I had laid bare
Of a heartbeat so… rare
Plummet from the summit
Of misread tomorrows
Of destiny borrowed
then curdled to sorrow
So here I lay
Broken, bleeding
Awaiting the pale kiss
The conciliatory rain of feathers
Unable to obscure my view
And there she is
Still beautiful as ever
Like sunlight
And hope
And tomorrow’s kiss.

Kraken

Into the burning red sky
I fly, I try
Failing, stalling
Flailing, falling
Into the sea

Into her blue eyes
I sigh, Good bye
Sinking, drowning
Heartbeat pounding
My silent plea

I feel your arms around me
In the darkening dim
I don’t know how you found me
But for Fate’s dark whim
I cannot see your face
But I feel your caress
Take me to the place
Absolve as I confess

Kraken heart and Kraken eye
With sharpened beak and silent cry
Fool me, hold me as I die
Make me believe she’s by my side
Kraken heart and Kraken eye
Hold me deep under the tide
To find the world where she resides
Let me this moment live the lie.

As above, below
The flow of undertow
Sinking, Holding
In drink enfolding
To find thee

All that I know
The woe I forego
Longing, dreaming
Prolonging screaming
Wordlessly

Your embrace, it surrounds me
Hear the harkening hymn
Coils weighing down me
Reaping through the grim
Oblivion’s giant eye
A lover’s inky kiss
Bidding me goodbye
Into the heart’s abyss

Kraken heart and Kraken eye
With sharpened beak and silent cry
Fool me, hold me as I die
Make me believe she’s by my side
Kraken heart and Kraken eye
Hold me deep under the tide
To find the world where she resides
Let me this moment live the lie.

Kraken heart and Kraken eye
And all the love I can’t deny
So on your whispers I rely
To hold my hand and answer “why?”
Kraken heart and Kraken eye
Into your frigid heart confide
Entangled like a lover’s bride
Let my last sight be her blue eyes.

Taste

The way you would sigh
The twitch of your thigh
And all I have left is the taste

The razor caress
The sins we confess
And my innocence all erased

The sting of your eyes
The stifling cries
Like smoke to my memory clings

In love left unmade
And penance unpaid
Descending on dark broken wings

If this is true
If you are you
Then what is there left to be me?

Tear off the skin
Burned out within
Chained up without any key

Enveloped in night
Enthralled by your bite
A slave to the crack of your whip

Lying alone
In silence I’ve sown
The taste of you still on my lips.

The Pulse 49 This is my tribute to the victims of the Pulse massacre. I drew them all in charcoal on 18×24 art paper, and then embellished with vinyl framing to add the colors of the Pride flag.  The stories of the victims are below, in the same order as they appear on the piece (alphabetical). ” order_by=”sortorder” […]
The open hand. The first time I called a suicide hotline was when I was eight.   They were clueless and ended up soliciting me for donations, and I couldn’t explain to my parents why they were suddenly receiving literature on depression in the mail for the next few weeks. The hotline’s ineptitude actually angered me enough that […]
The Song and The Sword There was a beautiful princess. She grew up in a world of pink petunias, mauve moons, and fuchsia fireflies . Her hair trailed like golden mist while her laugh chimed like silver bells. She had a smile that outshone the stars and eyes like slivers of sky, with grace and humility to match. Her father […]
This Speech is Free. I’ve seen the term “Freedom of Speech” thrown around haphazardly lately, mostly by people that obviously don’t have any grasp as to what it means. This is mostly a response to the recent debacle regarding Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson, and his suspension from A&E Networks. I’m here to make the facts clear. First, let’s […]
Scary Christmas to all, and to all a good fright! The Krampus is an old European Christmas tradition, in which Santa had a devilish sidekick, the “Krampus”, who would punish the naughty children, ofttimes in horrific ways. I thought it was about time he had a Christmas poem of his very own. For more Krampus information check out this National Geographic article. For more information on the […]
…was once New Amsterdam… Triton Festival is a three-day music festival of Industrial/EBM/Synthpop/Gothic bands in New York City. It was filled with top names, and the tickets were cheap, so it didn’t take a lot of arm-twisting on Kelsey and Christina’s parts to convince me to attend. I wanted to rise to the challenge of living out of a […]
When the toys go winding down… I spent my childhood in a never-ending cycle of escapism from the world around me. In the daytime I was at school, where I was ostracized for being a weirdo (which, by all accounts, was an accurate description of a kid that pretended he was a werewolf and drew zombies). My evenings were spent either […]
