Deep Sea Jewel

This was written for a friend in the fall of 2012.

The wind rolls in again
Your eyes pale as the storm
This thunder from within
This blood forever warm
Waves crashing at our feet
The fading of the light
My whispers here to guide you
Through the deepening night

When you cannot breathe
And darkness hides the door
When you’re lost at sea
I’ll always be your shore

The slickness of the deck
The cold wind as it blows
My breath upon your neck
My arms holding you close
The stars hidden in clouds
Our ship out of control
Voices buried in the sounds
In this tempest of the soul

I will always find you
When you’re lost in undertow
My embrace will remind you
Of this heart that you know
When you cannot breathe
And darkness hides the door
When you’re lost at sea
I’ll always be your shore

The cracking of our dawn
Finds us cheek to cheek
Where nothing can be wrong
The safety that we seek
Your lips taste like the sun
Your eyes so deep and warm
As we find our peace
Our solace from the storm

I will always find you
When you’re lost in undertow
My embrace will remind you
Of this heart that you know
When you cannot breathe
And darkness hides the door
When you’re lost at sea
I’ll always be your shore
