Victory

I was driving home for lunch. The day was gray and bleak, with monochrome clouds and humidity sticking to my skin. I crested a large hill and saw the crisp outline of the cloud’s shadow travelling up the road ahead of me. It was a race down the slope between myself and the edge of sunlight. As I hit the bottom, I crossed a bridge and simultaneously overtook the edge of storm’s shadow, and instantly was bathed searing warmth against my skin and lifting of the veil of bleakness. I was surrounded by verdant fields and azure sky, and felt that in some small way, I won a little victory today. The storms are never inescapable, and sunlight always awaits on the horizon if you just run to embrace it.
